In the field of industrial automation, one of the most complex aspects concerns the Transferring parts from one belt to another. This is a particularly delicate phase in any sector, requiring attention to avoid production flow interruptions, material damage, or inefficiencies.
Transfer can present different challenges depending on the size and weight of the products, the type of belt used, and the configuration of the plant. What are the main problems that can arise? And how can we address them in a functional, productive and innovative way? Let's look at it together!
When transferring pieces from one tape to another, the belts must be perfectly aligned to ensure a smooth transition that avoids damage and interruptions in the production chain. In fact, even a small misalignment can cause parts to fall off or create unanticipated friction.
Another challenge that one may be faced with is to maintain a Constant and synchronized speed between the belts: If the two speeds are different (e.g., one too fast or too slow compared to the other), the quality of the transfer may be severely affected.
There is also the type of pieces being transported to take into consideration. The shape, weight and fragility of the pieces greatly influence the performance of the transfer from one belt to another; for small parts or particularly fragile materials, it is important to take due care to avoid damage or malfunction.
Last, but not least, is the unexpected accumulation of material. In the event that parts accumulate on the edges of the belt or at contact points, it is easy for friction and blockages to occur that could not only slow down the production process, but also damage the belt and thus require more frequent maintenance.
To address these challenges, Crizaf Srl offers two advanced technologies for belt-to-belt transfer: driven rollers and pencil rollers. Both offer specific advantages, and their choice depends on the needs of the plant and the type of product handled.
Driven rollers are a traditional and well-established solution for transferring items between conveyor belts. These are rollers powered by either a motor or the belt itself, ensuring the continuous and synchronized movement of pieces During the transition from one tape to another.
Specifically, Crizaf’s driven rollers can be applied on both the idle side and the transmission side on "C1000" and consist of two coupled rollers of small diameter with traction induced by the belt roller through direct contact. Peculiarities of this solution are the possibility of application to conveyor belts with a usefulness of up to 1900mm and the acceleration of the speed of part transfer, which reduces the risk of it getting stuck in the space between the roller and the roller of the next belt.
Basically, the advantages of conveyor belts with driven rollers can be summarized as follows:
Transfer Efficiency: They ensure a smooth and continuous transfer, even for large or irregularly shaped pieces.
Reduction of Downtime:Thanks to the smooth movement, driven rollers help prevent interruptions in the production process.
Simplified Maintenance: The relatively simple structure of driven rollers makes them easy to maintain and repair.
Pen rollers represent a more advanced technological solution, particularly suitable for the small or very fragile pieces, where extreme precision in the transition between belts is required. The term "pen rolls" derives from their characteristic design: a series of narrow, closely spaced rolls that allow minimal contact with the material being conveyed.
Specifically, Crizaf applies a small-diameter roller on the idler side of the conveyor belt so that it can get as close as possible to the next belt and allow small parts to pass through without getting caught between the rollers of the two belts.
This innovative solution can be applied to Crizaf belts of the series "C1000" with a maximum width of 400mm and is mainly used on conveyor lines formed by several belts.
Basically, the advantages of pen roller conveyors can be summarized as follows:
Extreme Precision: Thanks to the reduced distance between the rollers, piece transfer occurs with high precision, even for small items.
Gentle Handling of Materials: Minimal pressure exerted on parts reduces the risk of damage, especially useful for sensitive materials or high-quality finished products.
Easy Integration: Pen rolls are easy to integrate into complex plants and high-speed production lines because of their versatility.
The adoption of solutions such as the driven rollers and pencil rollers makes it possible to overcome difficulties in moving parts from belt to belt, ensuring smooth and precise transfer. Driven rollers offer synchronized motion and are suitable for more robust materials or large parts, while pen rollers are ideal for fragile or small products due to their gentleness and precision.
Both solutions offered by Crizaf Srl are designed to Improve the efficiency of inter-tape transfer, , reduce downtime and optimize productivity in a wide range of industries. The choice between driven and pen rollers depends on the specific needs of the plant, but in either case, the goal is to ensure a safe, smooth and efficient handling process.
